Winterlude Day 1. Fri Feb 1st, 2008

The A team went to Confederation Park today. We braved the ice, cold and blowing snow. We battled commuters wanting to chastise and give advice. And we survived torture from being encapsulated under the strollers storm cover. But we did it, in order to bring you all the beginning of the ice sculpting competition.
These are all over the city to advertise and celebrate.
The entrance to the "Casino Lac Leamy Crystal Lounge"
The fountain inside Confederation Park serves as a `Display Shelf` for some of the already created Ice Sculptures.
An Inukshuk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inukshuk)
One of the bigger sculptures in the park. For my American friends... That is an Igloo. Some of the Inuit peoples lived in them (See inuit person to right of igloo). This one is just an ice sculpture and I can assure you no one is living in it currently. To the extreme right of that, is a dogsled. Also used by inuit people once upon a time as a method of transportation. People do still use dog sleds as a method of travel. However, not in Ottawa. Or Toronto. Or Georgetown.
Look! If you come to Winterlude, you can pretend you`re an inuit person.
The Crystal Lounge. I can`t wait to go have a drink here!

What I learnt walking around on Tues. Jan 29th/08
I learnt that there is a basement to the Old Zellers on Sparks st. HOWEVER, That is where they keep the baby stuff and the toys.... AND there is no elevator. (How stupid is that?)
I learnt that the cats that live outside parliament are all ok. And warm.
I learnt that while parliament closes at 4pm, you should really be out of there by 3:20 because otherwise the place is SWAMPED with drivers for delegates and it is insane to move around.
I learnt that as the stray cats are tame, so are the parliamentary pigeons. And, they think everyone is there to feed them. So, I also learnt that tame pigeons will follow you like a stray puppy.
I learnt that when ice drips off a statue, it looks like a the statue was egged.
I learnt that legs (mine) can still get frostbitten and a rash from the cold. Even if they are a lot fatter then the last time it happened.
