I learnt that there is a basement to the Old Zellers on Sparks st. HOWEVER, That is where they keep the baby stuff and the toys.... AND there is no elevator. (How stupid is that?)
I learnt that the cats that live outside parliament are all ok. And warm.
I learnt that while parliament closes at 4pm, you should really be out of there by 3:20 because otherwise the place is SWAMPED with drivers for delegates and it is insane to move around.
I learnt that as the stray cats are tame, so are the parliamentary pigeons. And, they think everyone is there to feed them. So, I also learnt that tame pigeons will follow you like a stray puppy.
I learnt that when ice drips off a statue, it looks like a the statue was egged.
I learnt that legs (mine) can still get frostbitten and a rash from the cold. Even if they are a lot fatter then the last time it happened.

A walk to the Chateau Laurier.
If you can't see the whole pic, click on it and it will appear!

Lord Elgin Hotel

Parliment to the left, War memorial in the middle, Chateau Laurier on the right.

Parliment

Chateau Laurier

The street beside Sparks street.

First Baptist Church
(Notice a theme in the buildings?)
Cool things learnt/seen today:
1)The South African (Boer) War monument.
2)Orientating myself to the downtown core. I can now walk around with confidence. ;)

Where we live. A pictorial essay
Saturday, January 5, 2008
Not really a good first blog. So don't count it as such. This is just an update.
So I am live for now. I don't know how we have a connection. But, we do. Rogers Cable is coming tomorrow morning at 8am to hook up our internet. As well as to install a PVR on the main tv. (They had an AWESOME deal going on that I couldn't refuse because I am a tv-o-holic who can't stand to be a couch potatoe.)
The drive up was a good one. Slow. And, in a mini van. But, good all the same. No one really cried for long. And I think everyone but Digby was happy with the comfort of the new van. I think Diggy thought it was comfortable enough (How could he not. We pulled out the seat behind the driver's seat and put his dog bed there for him with a rawhide and a stuffy. He wanted to lay between our seats though and I think he was a little put off because that was where Maggie's carrier was.
When we walked into the suite it was set at 89 degrees!!! And that was in the living room! The smaller rooms without the windows were much hotter. Its come down to a liveable temperature in here now. But, not while wearing the winter clothes that I brought with us. I am currently writing this in my workout gear while Marc is sleeping in boxers, and Aaron is sleeping in his diaper and a sleepsack.
The only one who seems to be having issues is Digby. Maggie has taken it all as a champ. She knows where her litter is, and seems to be enjoying the investigation of the new place. She did have a wee bit of trouble figuring out where to sleep last night. But, I think that was because Marc and I were on opposite sides of the bed. Digby however, is definitely more skiddish (although I'm sure he'll come around.) and had a horrible time settling last night. Both times Marc went out to walk him, he took an hour and a half to go to the bathroom. And, he had to be let off the leash (in a leash only park) to do so. When Marc leaves the apartment, Digby and Aaron go crazy. Digby stands at the door (or follows me around) wimpering. While Aaron just stands at the door and cries.
I'm so glad most of the people here work M-F because I'm sure the people beside us would already have hated us being that Aaron cried & screamed a lot yesterday as he was exploring. And getting told no. And occasionally pinching his fingers in the doors... (What can I say? I was watching. But, sometimes I think this kid just needs to figure out stuff like that on his own. Esp. if I've already warned him 6 times about it.)
But, I can't say too much because he will soon have been asleep for 12 hours straight in the queen size bed in the other room with the bedrails I struggled with yesterday. Perhaps his sleeping issues are that he wants a great big bed? (Not likely, the kid didn't really nap yesterday.)
Today is the day we go out and do the rest of the running around. Dog Crate and pet supplies first. Groceries, Ikea(odds & ends... Like scizzors. Or a better place for the knives than the second drawer down), & TRU (Baby proofing and a potty because ours wouldn't fit in the jam packed van.) next. Not sure how much we'll get done though because I'm worried about Digby.
Then, tomorrow I think we wait for the internet guy. And, do the stuff we didn't do today.
I will try to take and post some pics once I get the luggage out of the living room.
Take Care,
Angela
